ROLEPLAY IN DAYBREAK
The roleplay guidelines that follow should not be taken as general roleplay etiquette. These are simply basic principles and methods we follow in Daybreak, in order to make roleplay flow smoother for everyone involved.
Three styles of roleplay are used in Daybreak: Long-posting, Medium-posting, and Short-posting.
Long-posting: Long posts consist of four or more "FH posts." Long posts are for leisure roleplay, whether it's relaxing around the camp, conversing with other characters, and whatnot. Long posts are for when a character has much to say, or for when a roleplayer has much to write. It is when there is no rush to post, and no characters are under a time limit to their actions.
Medium-posting: Medium-posts range from three or less FH posts. They are for when members are encouraged to post more quickly in order to see their roleplay goal to completion, such as a patrol.
Short-posting: Short posts consist of a few sentences, and at most one, maybe two FH posts. They are for when members are pressed for time, usually during an event where characters must make decisions and act quickly.
These posting methods are designed to save time and accomplish more in roleplay. It is designed to shorten events, and to not have events last hours. Avoiding long-posting during missions ensures that the mission will be completed, rather than members growing tired waiting for long posts, or having to leave.
BASIC RULES
1. You cannot post-cut your RP partners. You CAN post cut people who are not roleplaying with you.
2. Time is flexible, but please try your best to be consistent!
3. A posting order should be established before roleplay begins. This gives everyone an equal chance to respond in turn.
The FeralHeart chats should be used as follows:
LOCAL | Local chat is reserved for public roleplay. Anyone can post here, and anyone can respond to anyone's post without permission. A heads up before one pops in is just good manners. Changes made to the established posting order should be made clear as roleplay goes on. Post-cutting can be done in this chat, so long as the posts are from separate roleplays.
PARTY | Party is reserved for private roleplay. Post-cutting is discouraged here. Members roleplaying in party do not wish to be disturbed. Members must ask or be invited to the party before they can join in.
GENERAL | General is reserved for Map-Wide OOC chatter. It is also reserved for Announcements made by the Staff, and Events hosted by the Staff. OOC chatter should completely stop during an event.
GROUP | Group chat is for OOC only. OOC should not stray to the other chats other than General, in order to prevent spam and to ensure that no one's posts get lost in the mix. Correction of typos is the only permissible OOC allowed in other chats beside Group and General.
EXCEPTIONS
1. Interrupting another character mid-sentence is tricky. While it can certainly be pre-planned, an interruption of dialogue can be made when the cat being interrupted ends their posts with a ">" in the middle of dialogue. One could then post-cut that person with their post, so long that it pertains to the roleplay, of course.
Example: MEMBER 1: Briarheart settled himself on the warm stone, a perplexed expression fixed upon his face. "I just don't understand why Dustwhisker would do such a thing. I never meant to >
MEMBER 2: Dustwhisker stirred from the warriors den particularly early that morning, and strolled over to where he spotted Brairheart and Sootcloud whispering to each other. "Good morning, you two! Would either of you care to join me for the morning hunt?"
In short, post-cutting should only be done when intentionally interrupting another character's dialogue or action. It is polite, but not required, to PM the member before they finish their post or so they may end their post at a certain point.
